Free Crochet Scrunchie Pattern Using Dollar Tree Chenille Yarn (Beginner-Friendly)

I wanted to start this blog with something simple and beginner-friendly, so today I’m sharing my easy crochet scrunchie pattern. This is a free crochet scrunchie pattern that works up quickly and is perfect if you’re just getting started. Scrunchies were one of the first things I learned how to make, and they’re still one of my favorite small projects when I want something relaxing and practical.

Lately, I’ve also been experimenting with more budget-friendly yarn options…

I’ve been testing out the Dollar Tree chenille yarn lately and honestly… I was surprised. If you’ve been wondering what to make with Dollar Tree chenille yarn, this easy crochet scrunchie is the perfect beginner project. It’s soft, quick to work up, and budget-friendly. I used Dollar Tree’s chenille yarn for this project because I wanted to see how it would hold up — and it actually makes the softest scrunchies.

Why I Used Dollar Tree Chenille Yarn

I wanted to see if Dollar Tree chenille yarn was actually worth using for wearable projects, especially scrunchies. Chenille yarn is already soft, but I was curious how the budget version would hold up.

Honestly? It works really well for this.

It’s:

  • Super soft
  • Plush and cozy
  • Budget-friendly
  • Easy for beginners to work with

If you’re just starting out with crochet or you don’t want to spend a ton on yarn, this is such a good low-risk project to try.

Is Dollar Tree Chenille Yarn Good for Scrunchies?

Short answer: yes.

Because scrunchies don’t need structure the way bags or tops do, chenille yarn actually works beautifully here. It gives that fluffy, oversized look that’s really popular right now.

If you’re searching for Dollar Tree chenille yarn patterns or ideas, scrunchies are honestly one of the easiest and safest projects to test it on.

They:

  • Work up fast
  • Don’t use much yarn
  • Make great gifts
  • Can even be sold at markets or online
